What is solar cell.know about solar cell

Friends today I am asking about solarcell. Know about solar cell.

It is adevice to covert solar

energy in to electrical energy .these cells are made from semi conductor like silicon ,gallium germani .solar cells are also known as photo lactic cells .the efficiency of solar cells made from these materials is about 10-15%.

The modern solar cells are made of selenium and have an efficiency of about 25%.

The principal advantage of solar cells are that they have no moving parts ,require little maintaince and work without the use of any focussing device .another advantage is that they can be setup in remote and in accessible places easily where power transmission is expensive.

Construction:- to make a solar cell .thin layer also called wafers .ofa semiconductor having impurities are arranged in sucha manner that a potential difference develop between the two regions of the semiconductor when light falls on it.

A typical solar cells consists of a 2 cm2  piece of pure silicon and can develop 0.7 w of a electricity and potential of 0.5-1 v when light falls on it.

Silicon is the most common ly use material to manu facture solar cells.it has the advantage that it is environment al friendly and is also available in aboundance ,but availability of special grade cilicon for making solar cells is limited.

Use solar cells:-

They provide electricity in artificial satelite and space probes.

These are used for street lighting, for traffic signal, for operating water pimps.

They provide electricity to light house situated in sea.

They provide radio and TV transmitted to remote areas.

These are used to operate electronics watches and calculator.

Solar panels:-

When solar cells are arranged cell side by side ,connecting each other in such a way that total potential difference and the total capacity to provide electricity current is much increased, then this t is called solar panel.it provides a much higher power for many practical uses.
